I know it’s a little long, but the situation has to be explained, so make sure you read it.
Welcome to Cuso is starting fresh. I talked to Andy about it last night, and we agreed that starting fresh was the best way to go. As I’m sure some of you have seen, the spam bots were pretty out of control. There were 4500+ users, and obviously not nearly that many people were posting. Instead, we were getting our mailboxes filled with spam bot requests.
Unfortunately, the database information for the old board was lost. Since there is a new version of phpBB (the forum), we wanted to upgrade. We can’t upgrade the board without the database information, SO… We’ve got a new board, with a new design, and a lot of new features, including new smiley’s for you fuckers that can’t stop using them. We can’t use the same theme for the board, or even the same smiley’s, because all of that old stuff isn’t compatible with this new version. But we’re getting brand new stuff here — it’s like Christmas for WTC.
Now here’s what you do: TELL PEOPLE ABOUT THE FORUM. Family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances — tell people that you see walking down the street… or something. We’re trying to get set up with a big community here. Plans are already underway for affiliate programs so we can get some traffic from other sites. The more people we can get here, the bigger it will be, the more new people we can meet and the more fun it’s going to be. The die hards have been around — Andy, Chubby, Doom Hand, Bossdaddy… where the hell is Llave by the way? Now it’s time to get some new faces around here and hopefully bring back some of the other old members.
As you’ll see when you enter the new forum, some categories have been merged together and a few new things added. The board is not yet finished, but is good to go for posting. There will be some maintenance being done throughout the next few weeks, but sit tight, it’ll be really cool when it’s done. A few of the new features include; embedding flash animations in posts, seeing users birthdays, and increased security so we don’t have bot problems again. Right now, you’ll see the CAPTCHA when you register; I know it’s annoying, but it is necessary.
Speaking of registering… one last thing. You WILL have to re-register your name (or a brand new one if you wish), which in turn means you will lose your post count. Fret not. if you’d like, we will edit your post count so that it is the same as it was before. The same goes with avatars and signature banners. If you want your old setup back, there is a “sticky” thread in the Announcements forum called “Old forum requests” where you can post and request all of it. And if you have any questions about anything else relating to the forum switch, post it in the same thread.
I think that about covers it. Now go register and start posting away.
